Trying to determine the best time of year to move from your home or business is already difficult. But trying to relocate in Minnesota presents additional challenges due to the wide array of weather you may have to deal with. So should you just avoid moving during certain months? If so, when is the best season to move?

At Ace Moving & Warehousing, we understand every move is different. There are a variety of factors to take into account when deciding the best time to move, and sometimes you simply can’t wait for the “perfect” timeframe.

Whether you are able to wait for the right window or just have to make it work, hiring a residential moving company can help make your move as stress-free as possible. A full-service moving company will not only move your belongings for you, they’ll also help you pack, provide supplies, load, and unload. That’s what our team at Ace Moving & Warehousing is all about!

Whether you hire a moving company or do it yourself, you’ll have to select what day and time to move. Here are some things to keep in mind as you organize a plan.

Best Season to Move

There is no “safe” season for moving. Spring, summer, fall, and winter all come with unique challenges, from weather and temperatures to traffic. Ultimately, the decision comes down to your needs, budget, and preferences. However, there are a few things that may influence your decision.

●        Choose spring or fall if you care about comfort.

Although each season presents unique challenges for movers, winter tends to be the season you’d want to avoid if at all possible. Between the potential snow, ice, and subzero temperatures, it doesn’t make for an easy time of the year to move. There tend to be more accidents in the winter as well due to slick road conditions, and the last thing you want to have happen is to get in a crash with all of your belongings.

You might think summer would be the best season to move in, but then there’s a chance you’ll be moving in extreme heat. Beyond the summer heat, it can also be the most expensive time of the year to travel.

Select spring or fall to move if you prioritize comfort. There might be rain or some flurries, but for the most part, you won’t have snow, extreme heat, or extreme cold.

●        Avoid a moving company’s busy season.

Moving companies typically have a busy season. If you don’t plan in advance and you contact a moving company during one of their busy seasons, you might not be able to get the help you were looking for – at least not in the timeframe you wanted.

●        Work around your children’s schedule.

If you have children you’ll want to take into account their schedule when planning when to move.

Best Time of the Month to Move

For most families, the second or third week of the month tends to be the best time to move. That’s because the beginning and end of each month tend to be the busiest due to job changes, when military moves happen, or when employees are relocated. On top of that, rental properties often start or end a lease at the beginning or end of the month. You’ll have more options and deal with less traffic if you can move during the second or third week of the month.

Best Time of the Week to Move

Nearly all moves take place on the weekends, which makes sense since most people start their work week on Mondays. To have the least amount of disruption with work, most families try to move Friday, so they can have the weekend to get settled before the work week starts back up on Monday. This means weekends are the first days to be booked each month for moving companies. If possible, schedule your move for a Monday or Tuesday. There will likely be more available appointments at the beginning of the week, as well as less traffic on the roads.

Best Time of the Day to Move

The time of the day you choose to move doesn’t matter much as long as you’ve followed the above guidelines. It can be nice to move during the day so you have natural light, but then there’s usually more traffic during the day. If you do hire our company to help you move, if you schedule for the morning we’ll have more time throughout the day to help you unpack the truck.
